A couple of weeks ago, I told you about my extra prednison weight in this blog and about how I do not feel good in my body. Stylist Stasia Savasuk explains in this podcast from Tiffany Han how you can choose your clothes that not only look good on your body but that also make you feel good. And you will radiate that good feeling, she says. In this second part of the blog, I want to explain to you how you can create your own personal styl. Are you going to join me in this challenge?
It’s about looking at who you are on the inside and not getting distracted by the media, the latest trends or what your very cool neighbour is wearing. Those clothes might look great on her, but who says they look good on you or make you feel good? Ask yourself how you want to be perceived by the world around you? Do you want to feel and look like a professional business woman (I’m assuming your female ;)), a sweet girl, a sporty woman, very feminine or a real bad ass chica. Stasia tells us that people treat you by how you look. How do you present yourself to the world? Did you ever think about that? And does this correspond to what you want to radiate? If you are a cool, strong woman you beter not dress in a frilly and flowery dress with ballet flats. And if you want to look like a girl boss who leads her company to the top you might not want to wear leggings and a tunic to work but instead choose a power suit.
I never really thought about what I radiate to the world. I really only dress in clothes that appeal to me. Today those are mostly skinny jeans, skirts and dresses, either frilly or quite body hugging (even though I don’t like my stomach – I useally wear a cardigan over them). My love for jackets has died down a bit because I don’t like my stomach and I feel it gives extra attention to that part of my body. Part of me that I use to express with jackets and suits has been lost and that’s why it’s time to discover a new style and look based on what I want to radiate.
Stasia explains you can pretty easily identify your own style. “Look at the five parts of your body that you love most. Accentuate those 5 parts.” Maybe you are just like me used to looking at the parts you don’t like, but if you do that too often you are definately not going to feel better about yourself. So look at what you can acentuate in a positive way. It could be your collar bones, your wrists, your smile or your ankles, anything you like. You will see your own beauty if you concentrate on your favourite parts.
If you’ve identified the five parts you love most, try to combine them with what you want to radiate. If you want your uniqueness to set you apart, maybe a (part) vintage look is your thing. If you like your face, you could wear a head scarf or a hat. If you like your collar bone, maybe a low top with a huge necklace is a good idea.
Are you a print kind of woman or do you like 1 color best? Are bold colors your thing or do you like neutrals or pastels? Look at the color of your skin? If you turn red easily, red is probably not your color 😉
Do these tips help you or do you need more suggestions to find your perfect style? How do you define your style and do you care about what you radiate? Did you ever notice people treat you differently when you go for a totally different look? We love to hear your opinion!
