A while ago we had dinner at hotel restaurant Vlint21 in Borger. Borger is a small village in the north of Drenthe (a beautiful spot to walk in the woods or enjoy a holiday) and we were quite surprised that they chose to serve vegan food here. Spoiler alert: it was really good!
What is your experience with vegan food in the country? We have noticed it can be quite a challenge – even in countries that are ahead of their time like the UK and Germany. If they offer to prepare something it will usually be very basic: a few salad leaves with some cucumber and tomato. Not at Vlint21! They know what good food is.
Vlint 21 is also a hotel. You can stay the night if you’ve had a little too much fun here. The interior is quite modern and comfortable and the staff was really kind and welcoming. The menu is extensive and also offers options for meat and fish eaters. Vegans have a few different options in each category and even the desserts are quite impressive: vegan cheesecake anyone?
There’s another reason why we shine a light on Vlint21 right now: they are going all vegan in the upcoming annual ‘Vegetarian Restaurant Week’ from 11 – 17 March this year. We think this is really amazing and would love to support them this way. We might even drive up there ourselves for a lovely dinner.
To give you an impression we are sharing some of the pics we took from our food.
